Horticulture :
Definition:- Horticulture may be defined as a branch of agriculture science deals with the production utilization and improvement of fruits, vegetables, flowers, ornamental, plantation, medicinal and aromatic plants, etc.
The word ‘Horticulture’ is derived from two Latin words Hortus +Colera which means surrounded place and growing carefully.
The Father of horticulture is Dr. M.H Marigowda ( Maragowdanahalli Hombegowda Marigowda)
Division –
- Olericulture: Olericulture is a branch of Agriculture science that deals with the production of vegetables. The specialist in Olericulture is called Olericulturist.
- Pomology: It is called the study of fruit cultivation. An orchard is a place used to grow fruit plants. The specialist of pomology is called a Pomologist.
- Ornamental: This science includes plants of beautiful flowers, leaves, and stems. It is also called floriture “and landscape gardening. The specialist in floriculture is a caller floriculturist.
- Fruit and vegetable preservation: It is the study of principles and methods of fruit a vegetable preservation. To keep fruit and vegetables fresh and useful for a long duration. It is also known as fruit and vegetable processing or technology. The preservation specialist is called a food technologist.
