Agriculture :
The term “agriculture” originates from the Latin words “ager” meaning “field” or “land” and “culture” meaning “cultivation” or “tillage.” It includes all activities performed with soil to fulfill the basic needs of humans. It includes the cultivation of crops Animal husbandry Fisheries, Forestry, etc.
Agronomy :
Agronomy – Agronomy Consists of two Greek words viz. Agros means “field ” and Nomos means “to manage “. Agronomy is a branch of Agriculture science, which deals with the management of fields to provide a favorable environment to the crop for higher production in terms of quantity and quality both.
There are some important points:
- It is an art as well as a science.
- The first farmer was probably from England (Europe).
- Agriculture has started in the hilly areas of Eastern Asia.
- The first cultivated crops were Wheat and Barley.
- Father of Modern Agronomy – Jethro Tull
- The words Kharif, Rabi, and Zaid are derived from the Arabic language.
- Maize and Sunflower are grown three in all seasons.
